Summer Newsletter 2008
Wow, have we got some treats in store for you. To start off, with those passing through Bath, England this summer you might keep an eye open for a 100 pigs running around the city all decorated by different artists including pop artist Peter Blake, Kaffe and myself. Kaffe set to with his scissors cutting out flowers and blossoms from his and Philip Jacobs' fabric range to collage the fiber glass form calling it ‘Princess Primavera.’ I have called mine ‘Pig in Prada.’ Visit King Bladud's Pigs in Bath for more info on the outdoor installation around the city. The pigs will be auctioned for charity this October if you are interested.
Rowan Yarns are launching a new yarn called Colourscape, a self striping yarn in Kaffe colours. Kaffe and I spent the day working with spinners in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire trying different coloured fleece yarns together for them to spin the complex yarns in order to create this new and exciting yarn range with 8 different color ways to start with. See your local Rowan Stockist for more details.
Later this Summer Ehrman Tapestry will be launching their newly designed catalogue featuring a brand new range of luxurious silk scarves including a range designed by Kaffe. New needlepoint kits to keep an eye out for are the ‘Auricular’ cushion and my ‘Cock of the Walk’ needlepoint panel.
As patron of the Quilters Guild of the UK, Kaffe attended the opening of the Quilt Museum in the city centre of York. Those able to visit the museum are in for a treat. The opening exhibition curated by Helen Joseph hosts an inspiring and intriguing cross section of contemporary and historic quilts beautifully displayed in the medieval guildhall of St Anthony, nestled in the city walls. A worthwhile trip and place to visit indeed.
This August we will be at the ‘Festival Of Quilts’ in Birmingham, England signing advanced copies of the ‘Country Garden Quilts’ published by Rowan / Taunton. This new book will be on general release for this September featuring the latest collection of quilts beautifully photographed at the celebrated garden of the late Christopher Lloyd at Great Dixtor, S.E. England.
Both Kaffe and I have a list of workshops happening into next year. With an exhibition at the Cowslip Gallery, Cornwall, workshops and lectures in Fife: Scotland, Northern Ireland, Stitches Mid West: Chicago in August and on wards. Please take a moment to check in on the calendar events page at Kaffe's Calendar Page and Brandon's Calendar Page to see about other up and coming events.
I often get remarks about what an exciting life we lead! Yes, we do and that’s because of all the wonderful people we get to meet through classes and events. So a big thank you to all of you for embracing what we do.
