Kaffe Fassett Knitwear Exhibition at the National Wool Museum - Amgueddfa Wlan Cymru

March 8th - November 2nd 2013

Running alongside the exhibition of Kaffe Fassett's quilts at The Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter will be an exhibition of his knitwear at the nearby National Wool Museum in Drefach Felindre near Newcastle Emlyn. This is an unmissable opportunity to see two aspects of his work in the glorious setting of West Wales. The National Wool Museum, part of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales, is housed in the former Cambrian Mills, an industrial woollen mill in the Teifi Valley, which was once the centre of a thriving woollen industry. Today, the Museum, which has free entry, celebrates the story of wool, from fleece to fabric, with working machinery, tours, and a variety of both permanent and temporary exhibitions and displays. It is therefore with great pleasure that the Museum hosts this exhibition of Kaffe Fassett's bold and beautiful knitwear designs.

Kaffe Fassett - A Life in Color

Kaffe Fassett is widely acknowledged as a visionary textile designer in his explosive use of colour. This retrospective, designed by Sue Timney, celebrates Fassett's extraordinary life and career from his revolutionary knitwear for Bill Gibb in the 1960s, to his work with needlepoint, mosaics, rugmaking, tapestries, yarn and fabric design, costume and set design, and quilting. Now in his seventies, Fassett continues to produce new work which also features in the exhibition.

Fashion and Textile Museum, Kaffe Fassett 'A Life in Colour' exhibition event

Thursday 2nd May, 6.30–8pm

Life in Colour: An evening with Kaffe Fassett.

This lecture promises to inspire and motivate with highlights from Kaffe's latest projects, including patchwork, fabric, needlepoint, mosaic, painting and knitting designs. A tremendous amount of Kaffe's inspiration comes from his continual travels; this talk is designed to empower the audience to create and develop their 'mind's eye'. You will leave invigorated by Kaffe's sense and use of colour!

Price: £25 / £20 students includes a drink and book signing.

'Snowball Quilt workshop' by Kaffe and Brandon.

Led by Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably, this 1-day workshop is an incredible opportunity to learn about the principles of colour in patchwork design from two of the worlds leading practitioners. You will be taken through the exact same design process used by Kaffe Fassett Studio.

Saturday 11th May, 10am–5pm

'Magic Ball Colour Workshop' by Brandon Mably

Enjoy a one day creative knitting workshop with Brandon Mably from the Kaffe Fassett Design Studio. This workshop is for knitters who know how to knit and purl – only the basic stocking stitch will be used in the workshop. This course inspires you to sharpen your observation of colour by working with a range of light and dark contrasting tones. The experience gained should give you the confidence to use your own personal colour scheme in any future designs.

Textiles maestro, visionary of colour and one of the biggest stars in contemporary needlework Kaffe Fassett will be descending on the bookshop inEly a whirlwind of colour for this special event! Kaffe's 'Glorious Colour' lecture will highlight pieces from his latest works from patchwork quilts, fabrics, mosaics to knitting designs and cover some of the 24 quilt shot cotton projects in Shots and Stripes. His thoughtful and intricate creations take in far-flung influences as as Pakistani kanthas, suzanis from the Caucasus and Amish quilts. The designs in his new book, Shots and Stripes, are as bold and beautiful as ever, but less complex and time-consuming (so more accessible to the lay quilter). Kaffe always lights up the room with his exuberance, style and humour, and this evening will delight diehard quilters as well as crafting novices.
